A: Disconnect the fuel line connection at the inlet fuel filter nut. When loosening the fuel line fitting at the carburetor, always use the correct size wrenches, preferably a "flare-nut" wrench to avoid rounding-off the corners of the tube fitting, and another wrench to keep the carburetor inlet fitting from turning. Unscrew the fuel filter nut, then remove the element and spring, which includes the carburetor fuel filter, inlet fitting, gasket and spring. Install the element spring and element. On bronze filters (Holley carburetors) the small section of the cone faces outwards. Where applicable, install a new gasket on the inlet fitting nut. Install the nut and tighten it securely, but don't overtighten it, as the threads in the carburetor body are easily stripped. Install the fuel line and tighten the line fitting securely, holding the inlet fitting with another wrench to prevent stripping out the threads in the carburetor body or twisting the fuel line.
