Q: How to remove a fuel tank for safety and convenience?
A: For safety and convenience, the fuel tank should be empty before removal if possible. If circumstances permit, run the tank dry, or almost dry, of fuel by normal vehicle usage. If it is necessary to siphon fuel from the tank, use a siphoning kit, available at most auto parts stores. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Disconnect the meter wire at the rear harness connector. Where applicable, push out the grommet in the trunk compartment floor pan and feed the wire through. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Disconnect the fuel hose at the gauge unit fitting. Disconnect the gauge unit ground wire. Remove the tank retaining strap bolts and lower the tank carefully. The fuel tank is retained by two straps. Remove the nuts and allow the straps to pivot down. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
