- Q: How is the ignition switch positioned and removed on Chevrolet Nova?A: For anti-hijacking, the ignition switch is located aside the steering column and operated by a linkage of a rod activated by the lock cylinder which is relatively remote from the steering column. On 1970 to 76 models the ignition switch was switchable without removing the steering wheel or column, just loosen the column. The switch should be set before removal to the LOCK position which, by inserting a screwdriver in the actuating rod slot and setting the switch slide to the right till the stop is felt before moving it half a detent downwards.
