    Q:
What is the purpose of fuses and circuit breakers in electrical circuits for Cadillac DeVille and DTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
Electrical circuits are protected by a combination of fuses and circuit breakers. Models covered have a fuse/relay panel in the engine compartment, as well as an electrical center or fuse/relay panel under the rear seat or in the trunk. A large underhood fuse/relay panel is located in the engine compartment on all models. Most models have a fuse block or an electrical center like this mounted under the rear seat or in the trunk. Each of the fuses is designed to protect a specific circuit, and the various circuits are identified on the fuse panel cover or the fuse panel itself. Miniaturized fuses are employed in the fuse block. These compact fuses, with blade terminal design, allow fingertip removal and replacement. If an electrical component fails, always check the fuse first. The easiest way to check fuses is with a test light. Check for power at the exposed terminal tips of each fuse. If power is present on one side of the fuse but not the other, the fuse is blown. When removed, a blown fuse is easily identified through the clear plastic body. Visually inspect the element for evidence of damage. When a fuse blows, the element between the terminals melts. Be sure to replace blown fuses with the correct type. Fuses of different ratings are physically interchangeable, but only fuses of the proper rating should be used. Replacing a fuse with one of a higher or lower value than specified is not recommended. Each electrical circuit needs a specific amount of protection. The amperage value of each fuse is molded into the fuse body. If the replacement fuse immediately fails, don't replace it again until the cause of the problem is isolated and corrected. In most cases, the cause will be a short circuit in the wiring caused by a broken or deteriorated wire.

    Q:
How do you diagnose and replace fuses, circuit breakers, and fusible links on Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain? Posted by Customer
    A:
The safety of the electrical circuits in the vehicle is ensured by a combination of fuses, circuit breakers and fusible links. The engine compartment contains the main fuse/relay panel while on the right center console floor panel inside left side glove box location is where we can find the interior fuse/relay panel. Each fuse protects a certain circuit which are indicated on the fuse panel itself. They come in three sizes: small, medium and large with similar blade terminal design. Medium and large fuses are finger removable while small fuses need pliers or a fuse-puller tool to remove them from their mountings When an electrical component stops working, it is recommended that you first check if its fuse has blown out. Power at the exposed terminal tips can be checked by lighting up a test light. If there is power on one side but not on the other, then this means that the fuse has blown out. In addition to these methods, it should be noted that Blown fuses sometimes have melted elements visible between their terminals when they burn out. It is crucial to replace any blown fuses with correct-type and rated ones only otherwise failure to do so may lead to serious issues such as short-circuiting or even fire outbreaks within your car's electronics system Fusible links are used in circuits where normal practice does not require protection by means of a fuse such as alternator circuit. Similarly, Alternator Circuit wire running from starter solenoid to alternator possesses one fusible link which can easily be located. Fusible links cannot be repaired being less gauge than wires they protect; however, if damaged link were cut off then stripped off insulation wires soldered together properly twisted using electrical tape would secure good contact enough for continuity between two ends of conductors Negatives battery cable hook up completes connection while testing circuit true status.
