Chevrolet Express Fuse Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How are the electrical circuits safeguarded and what steps are involved in accessing and replacing fuses and fusible links on Chevrolet Express?
A: Fuselage electrical circuits are protected by fuses and circuit breakers and each fuse as required protects a particular circuit. The position of each fuse and the circuit it relates to is shown on the underside of the cover of a fuse box. Located on the left side of the car's engine compartment is the engine compartment fuse and relay box; to get at this, the small trim cover has to be removed and the latches for the box released. Under the left kick panel on the floor board is the fuse box for the passenger compartment,Spare fuses and fuse puller as well as a directory of circuits fused by the particular fuse can be found on the backside of the cover. The relay center is under the instrument panel and at the side of the steering column to remove the left side knee bolster and the mounting bolts to access the relays. The fuse blocks also contain what are known as "mini" and "maxi" fuses, where maxi fuses can be hand-removed and mini fuses require the use of pliers or a small plastic fuse-puller. One should consider it when an electrical component fails: to check fuses, and to use the test light in order to find out whether a substitute fuse is faulty. Such fusible links require replacement with new ones of the right sort, as usage of other ratings will only result in new problems. If one gets burnt out quickly, the main problem- which may be a short circuit caused by spoilt wiring has to be solved before the fuse should be replaced again. Further, between the battery and the alternator circuit is a fusible link that melts in case of excessive current. Before replacing a fusible link, the negative battery terminal must be disconnected and the reason for the overload seen before putting in a new link.
