    Q:
How to install a distributor for Chevrolet Astro? Posted by Customer
    A:
To begin with, the negative battery cable should be disconnected for a four-cylinder engine, the coil wire removed from the distributor cap and the distributor cap taken off. Remember to mark the position of the rotor and make an alignment mark on the distributor to mark its alignment with block. After that, remove hold-down clamp bolt and clamp of the distributor then take out the distributor from engine. When reinstalling (no directional change of crankshaft), place back into engine with distributor in same alignment as before and mesh gears by turning rotor if necessary. Distributor should be secured down with hold-down clamp and bolt; then put back on distributor cap before connecting coil wire and battery cable. On a V6 engine disconnect negative battery cable and remove engine cover. While carbureted and TBI engines require air cleaner assembly to also be removed. Unplug wiring harness connectors from distributor base, remove distributor cap and scribe a mark on distributors housing base indicating direction of rotor. Prior to loosening distributor hold-down clamp bolt, record position of this part in relation to engine block. Remove Distributor. When reinstalling (no directional change of crankshaft), lower this into engine making sure rotor is in its original location and if necessary by turning it mesh gears. By engaging oil pump shaft with it ensure that distributor seats fully against block. Align housing using earlier made marks then loosely install hold-down clamp bolt, reconnecting ignition wiring harness, installing distributor cap, reconnecting coil connector, tightening down on hold-down bolt. Finally check ignition timing.

    Q:
How do you remove and install a distributor on Chevrolet Blazer,S10,GMC Jimmy and Sonoma? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the distributor, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the air cleaner assembly on HEI systems or the air intake plenum on EDI systems. Unplug the distributor's electrical connectors and remove the distributor cap. Mark the rotor's direction and the distributor's position in relation to the engine block. Remove the hold-down bolt and clamp, and take out the distributor. For installation without turning the crankshaft, position the rotor as it was when the distributor was removed. Lower the distributor into the engine, ensuring proper gear meshing. Use a socket and breaker bar to turn the engine until the distributor aligns with the marks. Install the hold-down clamp, reconnect the ignition wiring harness, and install the distributor cap. Reconnect the coil connector, tighten the hold-down bolt, and check the ignition timing. For installation with the crankshaft turned, align the timing mark on the vibration damper with the "0" on the timing indicator. Position the rotor between the spark plug terminals and lower the distributor into the engine. Use a socket and breaker bar to turn the engine until the distributor seats flush against the block. Align the marks on the distributor base and engine block, install the hold-down clamp, and reconnect the ignition wiring harness. Install the distributor cap, reconnect the coil connector, tighten the hold-down bolt, and check the ignition timing. For EDI ignition installation, align the timing mark on the balancer with the "V" notch on the front cover. Install the distributor, ensuring proper gear meshing, and check the rotor alignment. Tighten the hold-down bolt and install the camshaft sensor connector, cap, and wires as necessary. If the "SERVICE ENGINE" light comes on with trouble code P1345 after installation, the distributor may have been incorrectly installed, so repeat the procedure.
