Chevrolet Express Distributor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and install the distributor on various engines?
A: It is a guideline on how to remove and install the distributor in various engines. The first step to removing the distributor requires you to disconnect the negative battery terminal and take off the air intake duct or resonator. To position number one cylinder at TDC on compression stroke, rotate the crankshaft. Disconnect the electrical connector and coil high-tension cable from the distributor cap. Remove the cap and set it aside with spark plug wires still attached. Ensure that your distributor rotor is pointing to high-tension terminal of No. 1 cylinder then make a mark on the body of its distributor. Mark where you have put your distributor base towards engine block. Then, pull it up straight after removing hold-down bolt and clamp of distributor, marking below stopping point of rotor with second mark being made. In case you have to install a distributor again, check number one piston at TDC position again. Turn rotor until it is pointing approximately 42-degress counterclockwise from first mark. Put in place no more than one mark for reference purposes Align marks on manifold intake and distributor base apart from ensuring that rotor lies correctly as per initial marker/ point of reference in your engine block while inserting it into a car's engine block . Tighten bolt by installing restraints for clamp in place; Install Distributor Hold-Down Clamp; Completion Steps Are In Reverse Order Of Removal Being Done.
