    Q:
How are the electrical circuits safeguarded, and what should be done if a fuse or fusible link fails on Chevrolet Impala? Posted by Customer
    A:
The electrical circuits of the vehicle are protected by fuses, circuit breakers as well as fusible links, fuse and relay boxes are positioned in the engine compartment and right under the instrument panel. The function of each fuse is to protect a certain circuit, and the labels are on the cover of the fuse panel; if the label is illegible or is missing, there is a separate list of all fuses and relays in the owner's manual. Small fuses are installed in the fuse blocks; if the electrical component is not working, one must first check the fuse block, preferably with a test light on the exposed terminal ends; one side may have power while the other does not, in which case the fuse is blown, and this can be further confirmed by physical examination. Blown fuses must be replaced with fuses of similar type, because while physically interchangeable fuses of different ratings should be appropriate for circuits with the indicated rating, the amperage value should be molded into the surface of the fuse body. If a replacement fuse goes bad as soon as it is inserted it should not be replaced again until the cause usually short circuit by a snapped or worn out wire is fixed. Some circuits are protected by fusible links used in the circuits that are not fused or the circuits carrying high current as in the circuits between an alternator and starter motor; the fusible links melts once damaged by excessive current. If a fusible link has been replaced by another because of being blown, then it is important to use another of the same specification, or if the same link is blown again in the future, troubleshooting around the circuit must be done before putting in another link.

    Q:
What protects the electrical circuits on GMC Jimmy? Posted by Customer
    A:
The electrical circuits of the vehicle are protected by a combination of fuses, circuit breakers, and fusible links. The fuse block, which contains miniaturized fuses with blade terminal design, is located under a cover on the left end of the instrument panel. Each fuse is designed to protect a specific circuit, and the fuse panel itself identifies the various circuits. To check for a blown fuse, use a test light to check for power at the exposed terminal tips of each fuse. If power is present on one side of the fuse but not the other, the fuse is blown. It is important to replace blown fuses with the correct type, as fuses of different ratings are physically interchangeable but only fuses of the proper rating should be used. The amperage value of each fuse is molded into the fuse body. If a replacement fuse fails immediately, do not replace it again until the cause of the problem, such as a short circuit in the wiring caused by a broken or deteriorated wire, is isolated and corrected.
