Saturn Vue Pressure Plate Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How Do You Remove, Inspect, and Replace Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate on Saturn Vue?
A: The clutch components are usually reached by pulling out the transaxle while leaving the engine in the car. If the car engine is being removed for extensive repair, then it is recommended to inspect the clutch and replace any of the worn out components as their cost is relatively low and since involving time is already going to be spent in removing/transaxling the engine, it thus makes more economic sense to replace any worn out clutch unless the part is new or in excellent condition. The procedures proceed under the assumption that the engine is to remain mounted. Fetch: Start out by detaching the transaxle and suspending the motor; ideally on an engine support frame or the hoist. Secondly, take out the clutch actuator cylinder and then place a clutch alignment tool through the clutch disc hub so that it can help to support the clutch disc while the disc is being removed. Check and see if there are indexing marks on the flywheel and the pressure plate, if there aren't, draw new ones so that when you reassemble the engine these marks would fit into place perfectly. Turn the pressure plate to the flywheel bolts half-turns in a cross-wise manner to ease tension from the springs before removing the pressure plate, and the clutch disc. At the inspection stage, the flywheel should be examined for cracks and other peculiarities; if found to be corrugated, it should be machined correctly. Check the thickness of the clutch disc lining and look for any signs of wear, if unsure replace the clutch disc lining. The clutch disc may also be replaced together with the actuator cylinder. Check for wear and tear on the pressure plate and would replace the pressure plate if it has worn out too much. If the flywheel was removed, put it back and using brake cleaner wipe all the machined surfaces of the flywheel, and pressure plate should not have oils or grease on it. Place the clutch disc and the pressure plate over the flywheel so that installation is correct by the aid of the alignment tool. Loosen the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts then turn the screw heads until they are only snuggled, then bring the clutch disc to the right position then tighten every bolt in a red/black color style so that it does not distort. Apply high temperature grease on the release bearing, bolt the clutch actuator cylinder, the last step is to replace the transaxle back and all other components that were removed.
