Q: How to remove and install a heater control assembly in a Chevrolet Metro?
A: Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Remove the ashtray assembly, if necessary, by removing the two upper mounting screws. Pull off the control knobs and detach the trim panels which surround the radio and heater control assembly, as necessary. Remove the radio. Remove the glove compartment. Remove the control mounting screws. Carefully pull and tilt the unit out of the dash as far as the cables allow. Check the cable housings for indentations where the clamps grip them. Mark the cable housing with paint if no indentation is visible. Remove the clamps and detach the control cables. If necessary, disconnect the control cables at the ends opposite from the A/C Switch by detaching the cable clamps and separating the cables from the operating levers. Unplug the wiring connectors and lift the A/C Switch from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal. Normally, if a control cable is reattached where the clamp mark is, the lever will be adjusted properly. If the lever requires adjustment, remove the clamp and move the cable until the control lever moves freely through its normal range of motion.
