Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery prior to performing any procedures. Caution: On models equipped with the Theft lock audio system, ensure the lockout feature is turned off before disconnecting the battery. For early models, the radio receiver is mounted under the right side of the dashboard and is operated remotely by the radio control panel. Begin by removing the right side sound insulator or, on some models, the glove compartment. Next, remove the radio receiver mounting nuts or screws and lower the radio receiver from the dash. Reach behind the receiver to unplug the antenna, speaker, power, and ground connectors. To remove the radio control panel, it is necessary to take off the steering column trim panel, the radio control knobs, the instrument panel trim plate, and the radio control panel, and on some models, the heater and air conditioner control assembly as a single unit. Once the assembly is removed, detach the radio from the heater and air conditioner control assembly, and installation is the reverse of removal. For late models, remove the accessory trim panel surrounding the radio and, on some models, the instrument cluster bezel. Remove the mounting screws and the electrical connectors at the rear of the radio along with the antenna lead, then detach the radio from the instrument panel, with installation being the reverse of removal. For dash-mounted speakers, remove the instrument panel pad, then the speaker mounting screws, lift the speaker out of its enclosure, unplug the electrical connector, and remove the speaker, with installation being the reverse of removal. For door-mounted speakers, remove the door trim panel, then the screws securing the speakers to the door, disconnect the electrical connector, and remove the speaker, with installation being the reverse of removal. For rear speakers, remove the rear seat back and the seat back-to-window trim panel, then remove the screws securing the speaker housing for coupe models or the speaker itself for sedan models, detach the electrical connector, and on coupe models, remove the screws and separate the speaker from the housing, with installation being the reverse of removal.
