    Q:
How do you troubleshoot issues with electric rearview mirrors for Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION? Posted by Customer
    A:
To troubleshoot any electric rearview mirror issues, operate the mirror control switch and listen for the sound of the motors. If the motors can be heard but the mirror doesn't move, there may be a problem with the drive mechanism. Check the fuse and mirror control switch continuity. Ensure proper grounding. If the mirror still doesn't work, check the wires for voltage. Check for voltage to determine if the mirror needs to be tested or replaced. Look for potential circuit openings or short circuits if no voltage is detected.

    Q:
How do you remove and install mirrors on Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION? Posted by Customer
    A:
On models with manual mirrors and models where it's detachable from the door panel, remove the front door interior sail panel using a trim tool to pry off the mirror panel. On models where it's not detachable, the whole door panel must be removed. Remove the foam insulator, if equipped. If you're removing a power mirror, disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the three mirror retaining nuts and detach the mirror from the vehicle by disconnecting the electrical connector and removing the mirror mounting nuts. Installation is the reverse of removal. To remove the mirror glass, push the face of the mirror in at the bottom until the mirror reaches the stop. Insert a trim removal tool behind the glass until it reaches the first support rib, then pry outward carefully until the mirror glass is free. Install the mirror glass and align the mirror face to the backing plate. Carefully apply pressure to the glass, using a thick pad across the glass until the mirror glass clicks into place. To remove the inside mirror, loosen the mirror retaining screw and slide the mirror up and off its base. Where equipped, disconnect the electrical connector at the mirror. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the screw securely. If the mount plate itself has come off the windshield, adhesive kits are available at auto parts stores to resecure it. Follow the instructions included with the kit.

    Q:
What are the general steps to remove and install standard, manual remote, or electric remote mirrors for the 1977 Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
The general steps are as follows: 1. Remove the door trim panel and inner panel water deflector. 2. Pull out the front part of the glass run weatherstrip with the glass in the down position. 3. Remove the attaching nuts from the mirror base studs and remove the mirror for standard mirrors. 4. For manual remote mirrors, remove the mirror remote control escutcheons and the door trim panel, and disconnect the inner panel water deflector. 5. Right-side remote mirrors may require detaching part of the instrument panel. 6. Remove the attaching bolts and screws from the front glass run channel lower retainer to filler, rotate the retainer rearward, and remove the noise control patch to access the screw at the belt and remove it. 7. Remove the filler attaching screws at the top front of the window frame and then remove the mirror and filler from the door. 8. For electric remote mirrors, disconnect the negative battery cable, and similarly, remove the mirror remote control escutcheons, door trim panel, inner panel water deflector, and the electrical connector for the mirror. 9. Right-side remote mirrors may also require detaching part of the instrument panel.
