Saturn Vue Axle Shaft
The Axle Shaft in Saturn Vue is a very important part in the car since it links the differential to the drive wheels thus allowing the wheels to rotate in a different manner as they deal with the unequal traction needed in turns. - Q: How do you remove and install a driveaxle on Saturn Vue?A: To launch the removal of the driveaxle, we need to undo the wheel cover or the hub cap, then unbolt the driveaxle/hub nut using a socket and large breaker bar; if the wheel opening cannot accommodate the socket, then, it has to wait until you remove the wheel in order to loosen the nut using a long punch so that the brake disc does not rotate. Secondly, remove the wheel lug nuts, place the car on jack stands firmly and then take off the wheel. Loosen the lower control arm bolts and remove the steering knuckle attendant to the removal of the tie-rod end as well as the stabilizer bar from the link at both ends of the car. Take off the driveaxle/hub nut and pull the knuckle/hub to the side until the driveaxle is released. If the driveaxle splines stick, tapped the end with a plastic hammer and secured the outer end of the drive axel with a wire. Depending on the side, push the inner CV Joint away from the intermediate shaft counterclockwise for the right driveaxle; and pull the inner CV joint loosely from the transaxle for the left driveaxle while avoiding the differential seal. Secure the CV joints, and take out the driveaxle. For scrapping, remove the old spring clip at the inside end of the driveaxle or outside end of the intermediate shaft and replace with new one, when greasing the seal of the differential or intermediate shaft, lift the driveaxle into position. Make sure the spring clip is snapped inside groove, lubricate the outer CV joint splines and finally put the stub axe back into the hub. Proceed to tighten the balljoint stud into the steering knuckle re-connect the tie-rod ends & stabilizer bar links and finally screw in a new driveaxle/hub nut tighten the nut in place but not to the actual torque value until the car is lowered. Hold decisively the inner CV joint housing to ensure the driveaxle is correctly seated and then fit and tighten the lug nuts, lower the vehicle to the ground, fit and tighten the driveaxle/hub nut. As for the intermediate shaft: the right driveaxle must be unbolted, as well as the O-ring seal should be disassembled, the bolts of the bearing retainer should be loosened and the intermediate shaft should be pulled out of the transaxle. Grease the transaxle seal, position the IS into the side gear, tighten the mounting nuts and make sure the IS is slid into the gears. After such installation, the O-ring should be placed on the shaft and a new wheel-retaining clip installed as is the removal process but in the opposite way. For rear (AWD models), begin with wheel cover and hub cap removal, then turn the driveaxle/hub nut counterclockwise until it is slightly loosened, next lock the front wheels, then proceed to slackening the wheel lugs, raising the rear of your car, and securing it on stands. The steps are to remove the stabilizer bar link, hold the lower control arm, remove the lower shock absorber, and remove through-bolt from the lower toe-link arm besides this loosing the lower suspension rubber bumper nut and removing the outer through-bolt from the lower control arm as well. Lower the floor jack to remove the coil spring, unbolt the through-bolt in the upper control arm, drive the through-bolt into the hole on the wheel hub using a brass punch to loosen the driveaxle and then remove the nut. Remove the driveaxle from the hub assembly and pry the differential out of the driveaxle, put the retaining ring in its place. For installation, clip off the old spring clip on the inner end of the driveaxle, smearing the inner CV joint stub shaft with grease, then positioning the components into the differential where the spring clip should fit into the groove. Grease the outer CV joint splines, place an outer end against the hub, put a coil spring on the inner end, and reconnect both rear suspension components. Replace the damaged or missing nut on the driveaxle/hub with a new one and when tightening it ensure it is tight but do not use the actual torque to do so until the car is lowered to the ground, the wheel then put into place with the lugs nuts tightened and finally tightened is the driveaxle/hub nut before fitting the wheel cover or the hub cap.
