Saturn LS Knock Sensor

Saturn LS Knock Sensor helps to measure the engine knock which is an undesirable phenomenon resulting from the wrong timing of ignition. Knock Sensor when it detects knocking sends a signal to the vehicle power train control module (PCM) and which in turn alters the vehicle ignition timing to solve the problem. This adjustment allows the engines to function properly and are used to prevent damages as well. The primary function of the Saturn LS Knock Sensor is to use a piezoelectric element which is capable of changing the engine vibrations into electrical signals. These signals are constantly being observed, and the ignition timing is subsequently varied to maintain proper engine performance closer to the 'knock limit.' With this, the Saturn LS is capable of running even on lower octane fuels by optimizing the timing per cylinder and in some designs, controlling boost pressure too. Over the years, Saturn LS has incorporated the use of Knock Sensor to boost the ability of the engine in different conditions as it pertains to performance and its durability. This technology helps the vehicle to perform at optimum by catering for fluctuating fuel quality, pressure, and temperatures therefore avoiding the effects on the engine.

Each OEM Saturn LS Knock Sensor we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Saturn LS Knock Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove and install the knock sensor on Saturn LS?
A: For four-cylinder models, ensure the ignition key is turned to OFF, raise the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands, and remove the starter motor. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector, remove the knock sensor retaining bolt, and then remove the knock sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the retaining bolt is tightened to the specified torque. For V6 models, start by turning the ignition key to OFF and disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable. Disconnect the knock sensor No. 1 electrical connector, remove the accessory drivebelt and tensioner pulley, and the upper alternator mounting bolt. Raise the front of the vehicle on jackstands, remove the right front splash shield, and the accessory drivebelt tensioner. Disconnect the alternator electrical connectors and remove the lower mounting bolt, moving the alternator aside for access to the knock sensor. Note the routing of the knock sensor No. 1 wire harness, detach it from routing clips, remove the retaining bolt, and then the knock sensor. Installation is the reverse, ensuring the retaining bolt is tightened to the specified torque before reconnecting the negative battery terminal cable. For knock sensor No. 2, turn the steering wheel to the right, turn the ignition key to OFF, and disconnect the negative battery terminal cable. Disconnect the electrical connector and detach the lead from the CMP sensor clip, disengaging it from the attachment clip further down the wire. Tie a string or wire to the knock sensor No. 2 connector and a fixed component near the CMP sensor, loosen the power steering pump pulley bolts, and remove the accessory drivebelt. Remove the power steering pump pulley bolts and pulley, then raise the vehicle securely on jackstands. Remove the retaining bolt for knock sensor No. 2, guiding it out with the string or wire. Disconnect the knock sensor from the string or wire without removing the string or wire from the engine. Tie the new knock sensor to the string or wire and guide it back into place, completing installation in reverse order and ensuring the retaining bolt is tightened to the specified torque.
