Pontiac G6 Timing Cover

The Timing Cover of Pontiac G6 vehicles plays an important component in protecting the vehicles' timing mechanism which may include, timing belt, timing chain or the cam belt. Made usually from aluminum, plastic or steel, the Timing Cover shields these components from debris that may wear out the tightly toothed connections. Most of the Pontiac G6 Timing Covers are installed with gaskets which improve on the covering of the timing belt. However, Timing Covers like other automobile parts are not beyond failure and, therefore, require timely replacement to avoid compromising on safety. The Pontiac G6 vehicle has incorporated different styles of Timing Covers used over the years, which despite carrying out the same role of protection, might differ in material, design among others. The timing cover plays a significant role in the operations of the Pontiac G6 as does any other part in the vehicle, therefore proper care, and attention to this part can go along way in ensuring a longer life of the G6.

Each OEM Pontiac G6 Timing Cover we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Pontiac G6 Timing Cover Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove and reinstall the components of the engine, including the timing chain cover and related parts in four cylinder engine on Pontiac G6?
A: Before the removal of components first, reduce the connection between the battery terminal and wire. Suck out the engine oil and then unbolt and take off the drivebelt, together with the drivebelt tensioner from the timing cover. Further, eliminate the Crankshaft Pulley from the engine. If necessary turn the right front wheel lug nuts counterclockwise, if so required, lift the front part of the car and put it on jackstands before finally, removing the right front wheel. Unscrew the front cover fasteners gradually and evenly, then take them out; make sure you get access to the timing cover mounting bolts from above and below the engine. One should make a rough sketch of the front cover and the cover fasteners so as to determine the position of all the bolts that would have to be refixed. It is recommended to take off the water pump bolt from the engine front cover together with the timing cover and the gasket of the timing cover-to-block. To install scrape and clean all sealing surfaces of the front cover and the block while scraping the aluminum engine parts be very careful so that you do not scratch the surface. In case this is required, remove and replace the crankshaft oil seal in the front cover. Fix the timing cover gasket on the engine block without any damages; if it possible replace the damaged one. The last than attached the timing cover and all its fasteners with the hub of the inner rotor placed on the flats of the crankshaft, fasteners tightened only by hand until the timing-chains contact the block. Many models of car have the long water pump bolt and you need to tighten the water pump bolts to the necessary torque for the car model. Replace the drivebelt and tensioner assembly and then tighten tensioner to the manufacture recommended torque. The replace the crankshaft pulley, join the wiring harness connectors and fasten the wiring harness with clamps. Replace the rest of the parts in the least taken-out approach, add enough of the recommended oil to the crankcase, reconnect the battery, then start the engine to check for leakage and low fluids.
