    Q:
How to remove and install the engine front cover on Chevrolet Cobalt? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Drain the engine oil. Remove the drivebelt. Remove the drivebelt tensioner from the timing cover. On 2.0L models, also remove the supercharger drivebelt idler. Remove the crankshaft pulley. On 2007 and later models, support the engine with an engine hoist or engine support fixture and remove the right engine mount. Loosen the right front wheel lug nuts, then raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the right front wheel. Loosen the timing cover fasteners gradually and evenly, then remove the fasteners. Remove the water pump bolt from the timing cover. Remove the timing cover. If the timing cover-to-block gasket is in good condition, leave it in place. Installation: Inspect and clean all sealing surfaces of the timing cover and the block. If necessary, replace the crankshaft front oil seal in the timing cover. The timing cover gasket is reusable. Make sure the gasket has not been damaged. Install a new gasket if necessary, but remove the front engine mount to make gasket replacement easier. Install the timing cover and cover fasteners. Make sure the hub on the inner rotor is aligned with the flats on the crankshaft and the timing cover fasteners are in their original locations. Tighten the fasteners by hand until the cover is contacting the block around its entire periphery. Install the long water pump bolt. Tighten the bolts to the torque. Install the drivebelt and tensioner. Tighten the drivebelt tensioner to the torque. Install the crankshaft pulley. Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Fill the crankcase with the recommended oil. Reconnect the battery. Start the engine and check for leaks. Check all fluid levels.

    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall engine components, including the front cover and water pump in 2.4L four cylinder engine on Chevrolet Equinox? Posted by Customer
    A:
Removing the components requires you to turn off the car and unplug the negative battery terminal. Subsequently, it is required to pull out the air filter housing, turn out the engine oil, and strip off the drivebelt. Next, take out the drivebelt tensioner from the front cover and the crankshaft pulley, suspend the engine using an engine hoist/ supportive fixture and then take out the right engine mount. Lose the right front wheel lug nuts, then lift the front part of the car and securely position it on jackstands and then remove the right front wheel. Gradually and evenly unscrew the nuts of the engine cover and remove it, and when doing this get access to the bolts mounted on the block from above the engine and from below the car. Sketch on an engine cover and bolts for an easy location of all bolts before reassembly so that one will not mix up the bolts for reassembly. Take out the water pump bolt and the front cover though you should retain the engine cover-to-block gasket if it is still good. Generally prepare this assembly as follows: The sealing areas of the engine front cover and block, don't cut in aluminum parts, scrape clean and degrease. It is also a good idea to lubricate the bushing on the Crankshaft, replace the Crankshaft front oil seal in front cover and if the gasket is damaged replace it with a new one though the front cover gasket can be used again if not spoilt. Place the front cover and studs in position, making sure that the hub on the inside of the oil pump rotor fits the flats of the crankshaft snout; tighten the studs hand tight until you have block contact. Replace the long water pump bolt and then successively torque the bolts to the standard measures. Replace the drivebelt and tensioner, indirectly apply the torque to the tensioner then the crankshaft pulley. As for the rest of the installation, it is performed in the reverse order to removal. Refuel the crankcase with the recommended grade of oil, connect the battery and start the motorcycle and then factor in oil and coolant leaks then top up as necessary.

    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall Timing Cover in four cylinder engine on Chevrolet Malibu? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the components, first relieve the fuel system pressure, then disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Next, remove the air filter housing and set the engine to TDC. Loosen the right front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jack stands before removing the right front wheel. Drain the engine oil and coolant, then remove the valve cover, drive belt, and alternator. Support the engine with an engine hoist or a block of wood, carefully raising it just enough to relieve the weight off the mounts, and then remove the right engine mount and crankshaft pulley. For 1.5L engines, remove the oil pan-to-timing cover bolts, loosen the timing cover bolts gradually and evenly, and remove them. It is advisable to draw a sketch of the engine cover and fasteners to identify the location of all bolts for reinstallation. If necessary, use a pry bar to separate the timing cover from the cylinder head. For installation, inspect and clean all sealing surfaces of the timing cover, upper oil pan, and block, taking care not to gouge aluminum parts. If needed, replace the crankshaft front oil seal. For 1.5L engines, apply a 4 mm bead of RTV sealant around the timing cover sealing surface and a 3 mm dab where the cylinder head and engine block meet; for 2.0L and 2.5L engines, use a 5 mm bead and a 14 mm dab respectively. Install the cover and bolts in their original locations, tightening them hand-tight and then in sequence to the specified torque, ensuring to replace the #3, #5, and #6 bolts with new ones on 2.0L and 2.5L engines. Reinstall the remaining parts in reverse order, fill the crankcase with the recommended oil, reconnect the battery, refill the cooling system, and finally start the engine to check for leaks and fluid levels.

    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall the components of the engine, including the timing chain cover and related parts in four cylinder engine on Pontiac G6? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before the removal of components first, reduce the connection between the battery terminal and wire. Suck out the engine oil and then unbolt and take off the drivebelt, together with the drivebelt tensioner from the timing cover. Further, eliminate the crankshaft pulley from the engine. If necessary turn the right front wheel lug nuts counterclockwise, if so required, lift the front part of the car and put it on jackstands before finally, removing the right front wheel. Unscrew the front cover fasteners gradually and evenly, then take them out; make sure you get access to the timing cover mounting bolts from above and below the engine. One should make a rough sketch of the front cover and the cover fasteners so as to determine the position of all the bolts that would have to be refixed. It is recommended to take off the water pump bolt from the engine front cover together with the timing cover and the gasket of the timing cover-to-block. To install scrape and clean all sealing surfaces of the front cover and the block while scraping the aluminum engine parts be very careful so that you do not scratch the surface. In case this is required, remove and replace the crankshaft oil seal in the front cover. Fix the timing cover gasket on the engine block without any damages; if it possible replace the damaged one. The last than attached the timing cover and all its fasteners with the hub of the inner rotor placed on the flats of the crankshaft, fasteners tightened only by hand until the timing-chains contact the block. Many models of car have the long water pump bolt and you need to tighten the water pump bolts to the necessary torque for the car model. Replace the drivebelt and tensioner assembly and then tighten tensioner to the manufacture recommended torque. The replace the crankshaft pulley, join the wiring harness connectors and fasten the wiring harness with clamps. Replace the rest of the parts in the least taken-out approach, add enough of the recommended oil to the crankcase, reconnect the battery, then start the engine to check for leakage and low fluids.
