Q: How do you remove and install the Differential Carrier?
A: To remove the actuator, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery cable and unlocking the steering column. If the actuator is located underneath the battery, remove the battery and battery tray. Disconnect the Shift Cable from the vacuum actuator. Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands, then remove the wheels. If equipped, remove the front axle skid plate. Proceed to remove the front driveaxles and front driveshaft. Drain the lubricant from the differential and detach the vent hose from the differential. Unplug the electrical connector from the 4WD indicator switch and remove the shift cable housing and output shaft tube. Disconnect the relay rod from the idler arm and Pitman arm. Remove the two differential-to-frame mounting bolts, using an 18mm combination wrench to prevent the upper nut from turning. Lift up and rotate the differential for clearance, then remove it from the vehicle. To install, simply reverse the removal steps.
