What is the purpose of the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor for Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon?

The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor is a device for monitoring the pressure variations in the intake manifold that occur due to changes in engine load and speed and then converting this into voltage. The PCM gets its information as a varied voltage signal from closed throttle (high vacuum) to wide open throttle (low vacuum).
