GMC Canyon Knock Sensor

The Knock Sensor is important in the performance of GMC Canyon engines because it identifies engine knock, a condition caused by wrong ignition timing. This device is connected to the PCM to relay information to it in order that the ignition time is varied in a bid to reduce excessive detonation. Usually, GMC Canyon employs piezoelectric knock sensors that capture oscillations directly and enable intensive pressure sharing with regard to knocking. Improved knock sensor has opened up the celebrations to the extent that one is able to fine tune the ignition timing for each cylinder, or even control boost pressure in some engine layouts. It achieves the optimal possible knock operation near the limits, thus delivering higher performance with lower octane fuels without compromising on the engine. The implementation of such systems is an example how progressed is the concept of engine management in GMC Canyon vehicles in order to serve a long time and to perform stable under different conditions of driving.

Each OEM GMC Canyon Knock Sensor we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

GMC Canyon Knock Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What is the purpose of the knock sensor and how is it replaced for Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon?
A: The knock sensor detects abnormal vibration (spark knock or pinging) in the engine. The knock control system is designed to reduce spark knock during periods of heavy detonation. This allows the engine to use maximum spark advance to improve driveability. Knock sensors produce an AC output voltage that increases with the severity of the knock. The signal is fed into the PCM and the liming is retarded to compensate for the severe detonation. To replace the sensor, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. On inline engines, the knock sensor is located on the left side of the block, to the rear of the air conditioning compressor. On V8 engines, there are two sensors: one on each side of the block. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. To remove the right sensor on a V8 engine, remove the inner fender splash shield. Disconnect the wiring from the sensor. Remove the sensor bolt and the sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the bolt to 18 ft-lbs.
