A: To remove the air conditioning system, start by discharging the system and disconnecting the battery. Clean the compressor around the refrigerant line fittings. For six-cylinder engines, remove the drivebelt, alternator, and drivebelt idler pulley bracket. Disconnect the electrical connector(s) and the suction and discharge block from the compressor. Remove the compressor mounting bolts and take out the compressor. For V8 engines, remove the air cleaner housing assembly, cooling Fan Shroud, and drivebelt. Disconnect the lower radiator hose and the refrigerant suction and discharge hoses from the compressor. Remove the upper compressor mounting bolts. Raise the vehicle, disconnect the compressor electrical connector(s), and remove the remaining compressor mounting bolts. Lower the vehicle and remove any remaining bracket bolts. To install, pour the oil from the old compressor into a container and add the same amount of new refrigerant oil to the new compressor. Follow any instructions provided with the new compressor. Install the lines or line fitting block to the compressor using new seals lubricated with refrigerant oil. Reconnect the battery and have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested.
