Before replacing the oil pump, you have to lift the vehicle up, and put it on jack stands, then lose the engine oil. For the 1.5L engine, mark alignment on the oil pump sprocket and chain, remove the tension from the oil pump drive chain tensioner and lock it. After that, when holding the pump, it is necessary to unscrew the oil pump mounting bolts, bending the back of the oil pump upwards, lifting the sprocket out of the chain, and extraction of the oil pump of the vehicle. When changing over the above components replace the two oil pump O-ring seals, and in case the person is changing the oil pump pulled out the oil pump flow control solenoid retaining clip off the oil pump as well as pulled the solenoid out of the pump. As for the 2.0L and 2.5L engines, the place of an oil pump is on the balance shaft assembly, so the assembly must be unbolted at first. With the balance shaft module out of the way, go ahead and remove the oil pump pickup tube bolts and the gasket and tube, and then take out the oil pump and its cover from the balance shaft module, paying attention to where the oil pump locating pin is located. Check the wear or damage on the oil pump assembly and cover; clean the components and apply fresh engine oil if the worn parts are acceptable then insert the locating pin and put back the oil pump cover and assembly onto the module with mounting bolts. For 1.5L engine you have to replace oil pump seals, after that pivot the pump back down, adjust the shaft sprocket towards the drive chain into the position of two marks, lift the pump in place and fasten the mounting bolts. If the oil pump control solenoid valve was removed, apply the new one, then release the tensioner arm and only after that install the upper
Oil Pan assembly. For the 2.0L and 2.5L engines it is recommended to reinstall the balance shaft/oil pump assembly and the upper oil pan assembly and the rest of the procedure is the reverse of the previous one. Last but not least, add oil to the engine, replace the oil filter, crank the engine and look for any signs of leakage and make sure that the oil pressure comes up good to prevent severe damage of the engine.
