Q: How to remove and install an oil cooler in a Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Drain the cooling system.Drain the engine oil. 1.5L enginesRelocate the air conditioning compressor to a safe area without disconnecting the refrigerant lines, then tie it up securely.Undo the air conditioning compressor bracket bolts and bracket.Disconnect turbocharger oil feed pipe from engine block.Remove mounting bolts for the engine oil cooler, then carefully take out gaskets and cooler itself. After fitting another gasket, mount back the oil cooler on the motor tightening all these screws to specified torque figures as provided in specifications section Caution! Dispose of used gasket properly as if reused may lead to leaks in future. The process of installation is opposite to its removal procedure earlier done; that is why it is called reverse.Installation is the reverse of removal. Installation therefore follows exactly what was done during removal.Fill the engine with proper engine oil and fillthe cooling system with a correctly mixed solution of antifreeze andwater. For instance, for two litres engines,Remove catalytic converter,Remove heat shield fasteners for oil pump control valve then remove shield,Pull off clamps on hoses and slime them onto pipes again moving away from thee hose ends thus detaching hoses from pipes,Undo fastener securing yieldingly mounted together with oil cooler hoses,Lower down-oil cooler pipe by removing center fastener; gently unscrew pipe attached into engine,O –Ring seal can be removed by first dislodging the waste deposit along its interface,Squeeze new O-Ring seal into groove at lower edge on cooler body before puttingback lower center tube into place tightening its bolt,All other remaining activities are just a similar as previously discussed duringdismantling.Fill it up with right engine oil and coolant mix for two litres engines.
