The removal of the Ignition Lock Cylinder is followed by a warning that relatching should not be attempted by an amateur at home, as when the new key's transponder is programmed, the engine will start. First, the steering wheel and the upper as well as the lower steering column covers must be taken off. Place the ignition key into an Ignition Lock Cylinder, and rotate it anti-clockwise until one of the start positions appears. When removing the lock cylinder, one should make use of a 1/8-inch awl or punch to push down the lock cylinder release tab through the hole in the casting then retract the lock cylinder.
