How to remove the key lock cylinder and ignition switch on Chevrolet Impala?

The removal of the Ignition Lock Cylinder is followed by a warning that relatching should not be attempted by an amateur at home, as when the new key's transponder is programmed, the engine will start. First, the steering wheel and the upper as well as the lower steering column covers must be taken off. Place the ignition key into an Ignition Lock Cylinder, and rotate it anti-clockwise until one of the start positions appears. When removing the lock cylinder, one should make use of a 1/8-inch awl or punch to push down the lock cylinder release tab through the hole in the casting then retract the lock cylinder. To access the ignition switch the Ignition Lock Cylinder should first be retrieved. Then, slide off the theft deterrent control module off the Ignition Lock Cylinder housing and then, disconnect the main electrical connector and the separate fused jumper connector. Then extract two ignition switch retaining screws and then disconnect the key alarm electrical connector from the housing. Then take out the ignition switch mounting screws and the ignition switch assembly and the electrical harness will be detached from the switch. Last but not the least, installation is done in similar sequence as the removal process is done in reverse.
