    Q:
How do you disconnect and replace the ignition switch and key lock cylinder on Chevrolet Camaro? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the knee bolster trim panel, the knee bolster, and the upper and lower steering column covers, then lower the steering column to its lowest position. Remove the locking pin and disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch by depressing the red locking pin. Take out the ignition switch mounting fasteners and the ignition switch from the steering column, ensuring that the new switch snaps into place during installation, which follows the reverse of removal. Turn the ignition key to the RUN position and use a suitable tool to depress the Ignition Lock Cylinder release button located at the top, then remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder. For installation, insert the Ignition Lock Cylinder into the housing and push it in until it clicks. If replacing, ensure it is properly coded to match the original by a dealer service department. Verify that the ignition switch operates correctly in the OFF, ACC, RUN, and START positions, with installation following the reverse of removal. Removal of the lock cylinder illumination ring is not necessary for lock cylinder replacement; however, disconnect the electrical connector from the illumination ring, disengage the lock tabs, and remove the illumination ring, ensuring that it snaps into place during installation.

    Q:
How do you replace the ignition switch and key lock cylinder on Chevrolet Cruze? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to replace the ignition switch, first, remove the cable from the car's negative terminal and some parts of the steering column. Insert key turn the ignition switch to the run position remove the electrical connector from the back of the ign M ulti-function switch and note the lock cylinder retainer access hole. They are the two switch mounting screws that have to be removed so as to take out the ignition switch that had to be installed in the reverse order and reconnect the battery. Unfortunately, for the Ignition Lock Cylinder, one has to disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, and remove the steering column covers. Turn the ignition key inside the lock cylinder to run position, then bust the retainer with aid of an awl or punch, and then pull the cylinder out. Make sure that the actuator blade within Ignition Lock Cylinder bore is in RUN, as otherwise it will not fit. Once installed connect the battery and ensure that the ignition switch functions correctly in every other position. One thing to know when getting a new ignition key or an additional one is that the process is different for vehicles manufactured for the Canadian market. When trying to replace a lost master key, one should just insert the key into the ignition switch Ignition Lock Cylinder and start the car, after which the SECURITY message should take ten minutes to turn off. Set the Ignition Lock Cylinder to OFF position and wait for 5s, do this 3 more times and start the engine to check for real efficiency. To insert an additional key, it is necessary to use an already existing key and insert it into the Ignition Lock Cylinder and turn it to 'ON' then switch it off and extract it. In ten seconds place in the new key and turn the Ignition Lock Cylinder to the ON position so the vehicle recognizes the new key for normal functionality.

How to remove and install an ignition switch and lock cylinder on Chevrolet Equinox? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the cable that is connected to the negative terminal of the battery. You can remove the upper and lower steering column covers.Disconnect the park lock cable from the lock cylinder housing. Ignition Lock CylinderYou should insert into the lock cylinder your ignition key and turn it to ACC position.Put a pick or other small tool into that hole on the back part of the lock cylinder housing and press it in order to depress the release button. Take out the whole lock cylinder from its housing. While installing a new lock cylinder, ensure that you have set your ignition switch at ACC position. If this has not been done, use a screwdriver or needle-nose pliers to rotate it up to that point. The switch is not placed correctly when in other positions except ACC; therefore, it inhibits full insertion of this component in its bore.Place and see that all clicks are heard when one is inserting his/her lock cylinder into such housing associated with this switch. When removing, make sure to check if ignitions switch is operating as intended in Off, ACC, Run and Start positions. Housing and ignition switch RemovalIt is time for steering wheel removal now. Both multi-function switches must be removed without necessarily disconnecting any wires.Remove electrical connectors from ignition switch Detach Electrical Connectors from Ignition SwitchTake out two screws from ignition switch/key lock housing Insert key then turn it to ACC positionSlide off entire assembly from steering columnTake out mounting screws of ignition switch then remove same from housing InstallationTurn your ignition switch to ACC then fit it into this housing; fasten securely by tightening those screws meant for ignition switchesPut on a steering column a lock cylinder housing connecting all these with a multifunction lever bracket followed by bolt installation. After that, the bolts should be tightened securely to prevent lock tab on lock cylinder housing from disengaging with its slot in the steering column.Tighten lower mounting bolt and then upper mounting bolt until they both sit firmly.Lastly, tighten the upper bolt followed by lower bolt to the required torque. The rest of the installation procedure is the opposite of what was done during the preliminary separation process.

    Q:
How do you replace Ignition Lock Cylinder and Ignition Switch on Chevrolet Malibu? Posted by Customer
    A:
For key fob battery replacement, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the steering column covers and use a trim tool to pry off the ignition lock cylinder bezel. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn it to the RUN position. Use a pick or small tool to depress the release button in the ignition lock cylinder housing, then pull the ignition lock cylinder out. To install the ignition lock cylinder, ensure the ignition switch is in the RUN position; if not, rotate it accordingly. Insert the ignition lock cylinder into the housing, ensuring it engages with the switch and clicks into place, then verify the ignition switch operates correctly in all positions. Next, remove the steering column covers and the steering wheel, followed by the steering column switches and clockspring. Disconnect the electrical connections to the ignition switch, then use a cold chisel to work the bolts out counterclockwise. Remove the ignition switch housing and install the new one by reversing the removal steps, tightening the new shear-head bolts until the heads snap off. For ignition switches, remove the steering column covers, unscrew and pull the ignition switch from the housing, then disconnect the electrical connector. For keyless ignition, carefully pry off the center dash trim bezel, squeeze the retaining tabs, and remove the switch from the trim bezel, with installation being the reverse of removal.
