Q: How to replace the CKP sensor for Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo?
A: Both V6 and V8 models have their CKP sensors placed on the back side of the engine block. When you have to drive the vehicle to a dealer, after replacing the CKP sensor and starting the engine, and let service department perform crank-shaft position variation team procedure with a factory scan tool if Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) comes on. To replace the sensor, raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. The electrical connector should be disconnected from CKP sensor. That bolt that holds CKP sensor should be removed. The old CKP sensor 0-ring should be removed and discarded thereafter. Be sure to use a new 0-ring when installing even if you are installing an old one. Just reverse what you did when removing it as far as installation is concerned. Remember to use a new 0-ring and tighten up CKP sensor mounting bolt properly. On V8 models, near flywheel is where CKP sensor is located at. Get rid of the rear exhaust manifold. Removing electrical connector while undoing the mounting bolt for removing CKP sensor from V8 would do it all for you. Remove the crankshaft position sensor mounting bolt and take out it from there completely in order to remove its o-ring .It is just a matter of reversing what happened during removal in terms of installation also remember to tighten the Crankshaft Position Sensor mounting bolt properly.
