Chevrolet HHR Rack And Pinion

The Rack And Pinion in Chevrolet HHR cars is such a part that conveys rotary movement of the steering wheel into perpendicular shaft movement of the forward wheels. This mechanism is largely a rack and pinion system; the pinion gear fits into the rack gear which is contained in a metal tube to give the driver control of the vehicle steering. Currently, most of the HHR models employ a power assisted type of a rack and pinion steering system, which employs a hydraulic type of power assist. This system uses a pressurized fluid controlled by a rotary valve to offer the help that depends on the rotation of the steering wheel. At the same time, powered racks have emerged as preferred in the modern car lineup, and the HHR is no exception. Possible problems with the Rack And Pinion are as follows; the rack wears out due to mechanical strain and may thus develop some leakage or become stiff in the steering system. Attention to the condition of hydraulic fluid and seals/bushings as part of regularly scheduled maintenance is recommended to avoid expensive operation problems.

Each OEM Chevrolet HHR Rack And Pinion we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Chevrolet HHR Rack And Pinion Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove the steering gear?
A: To remove the rack and pinion, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal and positioning the wheels straight ahead. Remove the ignition key and turn the steering wheel counterclockwise until the column locks. Mark the relationship of the U-joint to the rack and pinion input shaft and remove the pinch-bolt securing the U-joint. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove both front wheels and detach the tie-rod ends from the Steering Knuckles. Remove the two rack and pinion mounting bolts and the rear transaxle mount. Carefully slide the rack and pinion out through the left wheel opening. To install, reverse the removal steps, making sure to replace the rack and pinion mounting bolts/nuts and the intermediate shaft pinch bolt with new ones. Tighten them to the proper torque specifications. Reconnect the negative battery cable and have the front end alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.
