Chevrolet Express Knock Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and install knock sensors in Chevrolet Express?
A: Take off the cable from the negative battery terminal. For 4.3L V6 engines, knock sensor is located on the engine block's rear part, to the left of the distributor. In 1996-2000, knock sensor was threaded into block. However, in 2001 and later models, a similar knock sensor is pinned to it in the same location. Remove the engine cover. Disconnect the electrical connector for the knock sensor. Get out of this way of communication. In '96-'00 models, just unscrew knock sensor with a socket. For '01-'14 models you will need to remove a knock sensor mounting bolt. 2018 and newer 4.3L V6 Engine have two knock sensors; one for each cylinder bank and these are located right below exhaust manifolds. Remove knock sensor center bolt then remove sensor(s) from block itself. Reverse process for installation purposes however make sure that you tighten either the specific torque or else tighten your knock sensor properly or your mounting bolt to it as well as thread locking compound which should be used only on threads of your mounting bolt and no other place such as holes of your Knock Sensor says OEM service bulletins (TSBs) provided by GM technical support center for their dealerships technicians. Put back everything like it was before disassembling! Torque down tight! Right side of block towards starter motor for all three types-5, 5 point 7 and seven point four liter V8s; there you will find that single screw-in one if needed! Drive up car front and secure it on jack stands first so you can do this without jacking up anything else anyway though it may require an extra set of hands especially if working alone so please try asking someone else before tackling such job alone after reading this because nobody wants to see themselves get injured while working underneath their vehicles even if they're using a floor jack from harbor freight tools where some smart people might think how could I possibly be hurt doing something like that and still others will argue why bother with all that extra work then which is why we have two choices really either not do anything at all just wait until somebody else comes along who can help out by lending their expertise or knowledge about what exactly needs to be done here since they've done it before themselves or start looking around for someone willing at least lend their opinion on this particular subject which more than likely means they should know much about these things unless of course there is another issue besides my personal safety being involved such as somebody's car needing repair fast but nobody else seems available right now so should call some friends see whether any of them would mind giving me hand while trying save myself headaches caused simply through lack patience otherwise I may end up making mistakes which could cost me both time money along way if not even worse still wouldn't want any unnecessary pain due carelessness no matter many times one has been through this type situation already.
