Buick Century A/C Condenser

In the Buick Century automobiles the A/C Condenser plays the role of a heat exchanger through which gas form of refrigerant is cooled with the aim of converting it to liquid form before proceeding to the accumulator. Generally located at the front side of the vehicle ahead of the radiator is the A/C Condenser which is a series of tubes through which this cooling occurs. Although, the overview does not give information regarding the types or styles of A/C condensers that are used in various Buick Century models, the basic structure maintains the same functionality of maintaining a proper heat transfer to ensure that the car's air conditioning is the premier. A large part of the climate control in such vehicles relies on the performance of the A/C Condenser.

Buick Century A/C Condenser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace the Condenser in an A/C System on Buick Century and Regal?
A: To perform this procedure, you will need refrigerant oil and new O-rings for the fittings by which the condenser is attached to the rest of the system, as well as tape or caps to seal off the openings. Make sure you also have enough wrenches so you can always use a backup wrench when you disconnect or connect fittings. Discharge the refrigerant from the A/C system using an approved recovery/recycling machine, remove the bolts which fasten the condenser retainers to the radiator/condenser support, disconnect the two refrigerant line connectors, then seal the openings, lift the retainers and upper insulators off the top of the condenser, lift the condenser straight up and out of the area between the support and the front bumper, install the condenser in reverse order, being careful to locate the bottom squarely into the lower insulators, and making sure that the upper insulators are in place in the brackets, install new O-rings coated with clean refrigerant oil, and screw together the high and low pressure connections, using a backup wrench, torque each to 18 ft. lbs. (23 Nm), install the mounting bolts and tighten to 7 ft. lbs. (9 Nm), have the system evacuated and then recharge it.
