    Q:
How do you remove and install the rear control arm and trailing arm? Posted by Customer
    A:
Loosen the lug nuts at the rear wheels and raise the back of the vehicle on jackstands, chock the front wheels. After that, remove the rear wheels, upper control arm-to-trailing arm mounting bolt and nut. Then remove fuel tank heat shield and fuel tank itself, follow with pivot bolt from inner end of arm. Inspect for deterioration control arm pivot bushing and replace it if necessary. For reinstalling fasteners in reverse order next to torque specifications are applied. In case of lower lateral control arm remove lower control arm-to-trailing arm mounting bolt and nut alongside with fuel tank heat shield and fuel tank. Following this take out pivot bolt from inner end of arm (note that rear stabilizer bar bushings may have to be removed for access). It is necessary to check on wear of control arm pivot bushing so as replace it wherever necessary. Replace the control arm in opposite sequence of removal procedure torquing specified fasteners properly. So as moving away trailing arms start by removing brake shoe or disc brake assembly, ABS wheel speed sensor and associated brackets first one thing to do is to remove a brake hose, brake line brackets parking-brake-cable and unbolt cable brackets as well as park them aside Remove hub & bearing assembly while holding out the brake backing plate then Slip a shock absorber/coil spring -to-trailing-arm mounting bolt together with a rear stabilizer bar link-to-trailing-arm bolt Unbolt the hub containing trailing arms using jacks; thereafter undo bolts securing upper & lower lateral controls arms Mark relationship between trailing arm mount bracket relative to car chassis before doing away with bracket bolts down towards fall No need to repeat checking for wear-edge since Pivot Bushings have been checked already When installing make match marks on mounting bracket that correspond those on unit chassis then secure it there by tightening the bolts Once you have done all these things we would then go ahead by tightening up all other fasteners to the prescribed torque values and then examine as well as adjust for any possible rear wheel alignment errors.

    Q:
How do you remove the trailing arm for the 2000 Saturn LS? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the trailing arm, first remove the brake shoe or disc brake assembly, ABS wheel speed sensor, and associated brackets. Unbolt the brake hose and brake line brackets, as well as the parking brake cable brackets. Remove the hub and bearing assembly, and suspend the brake backing plate out of the way. Remove the shock absorber/coil spring-to-trailing arm mounting bolt and the rear stabilizer bar link-to-trailing arm bolt. Support the trailing arm with a jack, then remove the bolts securing the upper and lower lateral control arms to the trailing arm. Mark the relationship of the trailing arm mounting bracket in relation to the vehicle chassis, then remove the bracket bolts and lower the trailing arm from the vehicle. Inspect the trailing arm pivot bushing for wear and replace if necessary. During installation, align the mounting bracket with match marks on the vehicle chassis, install the mounting bolts, and tighten them. Finally, tighten all other fasteners to their specified torque, and check and adjust the rear wheel alignment if needed.

    Q:
What should be checked and replaced if necessary for the 2000 Saturn LS1? Posted by Customer
    A:
Check the control arm for distortion and the bushings for wear, replacing parts as necessary. Do not attempt to straighten a bent control arm. If the bushings are cracked or show signs of wear, take the control arm to an automotive machine shop and have the bushings replaced.

Remove the pivot bolt from the inner end of the arm, noting that the rear stabilizer bar bushings may need removal for access. Inspect the control arm pivot bushing for wear and replace if needed. Reinstall the control arm following the reverse order of removal, tightening fasteners to the specified torque.
