To remove the hub nut, lift the front of the car and prop it up with jackstands. After that, take off the wheel and disconnect a brake line clip from a strut. Then without breaking apart an inlet line, get away with disc brake caliper. On installation mark must be made on cam bolt to equal this adjustment for camber. Remove both the Cam bolt and upper attaching bolt; then remove steering knuckle assembly from strut bracket. Use GM special tool or equivalent to draw axle shaft out of transaxle and remove axle shaft from hub and bearing assembly using same tool. In case axle shaft requires overhaul, automotive mechanic shop should press seal retainers in place. Also replace steering knuckle seal when replacing axle shaft. Install axle shaft loosely into steering knuckle and transaxle; also loosely attach steering knuckle onto strut bracket. Mount brake caliper followed by axle shaft into steering knuckle secured with hub nut tightly. Lower car just enough to align cam bolt with alignment marks; torque both cam bolt & upper nut down to specs. Connect the axle shaft to transaxle by tapping until seated appropriately. Attach brake line clip onto strut bracket, mount wheel, lower car to ground. Lastly, torque hub nut down to specs.

How do you remove the rear axle for Buick Skylark,Oldsmobile Omega and Pontiac Phoenix? Posted by Customer

To remove the rear axle, start by removing the rear springs and disconnecting the brake lines from the control arm attachment. Disconnect and cap rigid brake lines from both rear brake cylinders and disconnect the right rear parking brake cable from the left rear parking brake cable. Next, disconnect the right rear and left rear parking brake cables from their brackets on the rear axle. Remove bolts securing the rear parking brake cable guide to underbody and allow whole parking brake assembly to hang loose from right rear backing plate. Remove bolts securing hub and bearing assembly to rear axle; remove assemblies with brake backing plates. With another person's help, steady jack under the rear axle and remove bolts that secure control arm brackets to body. Lower, pull out of underneath car. In case of replacing a new axle again, remove control arm brackets from control arms and install them on new axle. Inspect control arm bushings for any damage necessary. Before installing make sure that lower edge of control arms is true horizontal plain and adjust control arm brackets to 45° angle if required. Reverse order of removal in installing rear axel ensuring not to tighten lower shock nuts or track arm nuts until car is lowered onto suspension with its full weight on it. Finally, bleed the brakes system as usual then adjust parking Brake.
