Assuming the piston ring side clearance is correct, ensure that the ring end gaps are correctly set before installing the new rings. In order to facilitate measuring of the end gap and engine assembly, organize the piston/connecting rod assemblies, as well as the new ring sets to align them. Gently push down on top of the piston's top at first cylinder with number one (top) ring inside to square it with cylinder walls and make sure it is about near bottom of cylinder. Measure the end gap by inserting feeler gauges between the rings ends and compare it with specifications before adjusting accordingly. If too small, carefully file the ends of rings with a fine file to increase gap; if they are too large, ensure that you have right rings.
