    How do you remove and install the CMP sensor? Posted by Customer
    A:
    Unplug the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. In 5.7L (LS1/LS6) engines, CMP sensor is at the rear of the engine under intake manifold. Take off the intake manifold. Disconnect electrical connector of CMP sensor. Remove mounting bolt for CMP sensor and remove it out. Prior to removal, clean around CMP sensor to prevent debris from falling into engine after removing it. Take out sensor from engine by pulling it up and out. Inspect condition of CMP sensor O-ring after removal. Replace if cracked, torn or otherwise worn-out Lubricate engine oil on O-ring sensor. Installation process is inverse opposite removal otherwise. On 6.0L (LS2), 6.2L (LS3/LS9) and 7.0L (LS7) engines, this is located in front of timing chain cover on the motor. Drive belts and idler pulley should be removed These are followed by power steering pump. Finally bracket mounting bolts with brackets are displaced alternator being pulled first. It also follows starting but then disconnecting jumper harness assembly mounting bolts then remove them from timing chain cover. Disconnect engine harness electrical connector from jumper harness connector; thereafter disconnect jumper harness connector wire to the sensor next. Inspect condition of CMP sensor O-ring after removal Replace if cracked, torn or otherwise deteriorated Lubricate engine oil over O-ring sensor. Installation process is inverse opposite removal otherwise.

    For these engines, the steps to disconnect the CMP sensor include:Removing the cooling fan upper shroud.Raising the vehicle on jackstands.Disconnecting the lower electrical connector at the bottom of the timing chain cover.Removing the harness bracket bolts.Moving the harness/bracket until the upper electrical connector can be disconnected from the sensor.Removing the sensor mounting bolt, discarding the sensor seal, and installing a new seal onto the sensor.
