    Q:
How do you remove and install front cover on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before the removal of any component, it is recommended that the engine oil be drained together with the coolant, and the drivebelt be pulled off. Then, remove the fan and the fan shroud, then the water pump and, finally, the power steering pump. Go ahead and pull the crankshaft pulley and also to clear the oil pan. Next to that, unbolt the front cover using 7 mm bolt that is located in the middle of the cover. Place two bolts on the jackscrew holes at the front cover, and screw then until the cover is pulled off evenly. If necessary, unbolten the oil pump from front cover. Solvent clean the whole area that needs to be sealed and make sure all traces of old gasket is removed; check the cover for nicks etc and do not use pneumatic tools to remove gasket. For installation, position the oil pump and crankshaft splines followed by fitting of the cover without the use of any sealant. Taking off the cover spread a 3/16-inch layer of the RTV sealant throughout the sealing segment and on the three bolt holes segment of the cover. Fabricate two alignment studs by taking the head off two bolts and then fit the studs through the front cover in the second hole up from the bottom on each side. Insert the front cover further forward until the oil pump and crankshaft splines mesh, and then temporarily fit the crankshaft pulley in position to centre the seal on it. Screw the remaining bolts for the front cover within 10 minutes of applying the sealant and tightening should be done to the torque recommended. Screw out the two alignment bolts, screw in and tighten the two cover bolts in their stead and then insert and tighten the middle cover bolt. As it is a removal process, reverse them to complete the installation; add fresh engine oil and coolant, start the engine, inspect for any signs of leakage.
