Engine mounts seldom require attention, but broken or deteriorated mounts should be replaced immediately to prevent damage to driveline components. During the check, the engine must be raised slightly to remove the weight from the mounts, and the vehicle should be securely supported on jackstands. Inspect the mounts for cracked, hardened, or separated rubber, and check for relative movement between the mount plates and the engine or frame using a large prybar. If movement is noted, check the tightness of the mount fasteners before condemning the mounts, as broken mounts typically allow the engine to move easily when pried or under load. To replace the mounts, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. For 5.3L and 6.2L models, remove the air cleaner inlet duct, and for 4WD models, remove the interfering driveaxle. Lower the front stabilizer bar by removing the bushing bolts, and if working on the left mount, remove the vacuum pump, left inner fender splash shield, and exhaust manifold heat shield. Remove the engine mount-to-frame bracket bolts, then attach an engine hoist to the top of the engine for lifting, avoiding the use of a jack under the oil pan to prevent damage to the oil pump pick-up. If a hoist is unavailable, a jack can be placed under the large casting lugs on each side of the engine block at the rear to support the weight while replacing the mounts. Unbolt the mount from the engine block, raise the engine enough to move the mount forward, and then remove it from between the engine and the frame. Installation is the reverse of removal, using non-hardening thread-locking compound on the mount bolts and ensuring they are tightened to the specified torque.

Raise the transmission slightly with a jack and remove the mount.
