The access to most of the clutch parts is normally got by pulling off the transmission but with the engine left in the car. If an engine has to be pulled out for major rebuild then it is always preferred to inspect the clutch and renew the same in case of wear and tear. Start by unbolt the transmission and hold the engine up preferably with the help of an engine lift or by placing a jack and placing wood between the jack's pad and the oil pan . Some amount of caution must be used in order to not damage the oil pump pickup. Next, unlatch the slave cylinder and unbolt and pop off the bell housing if you have to. The clutch fork and release bearing can remain joined as they are for the time being. To provide support for the clutch plate while it required to be removed, place a clutch alignment tool through the clutch plate hub. Index the flywheel to the pressure plate for alignment during reassembly, if there are no marks the mechanic should make some of their own. Turning clockwise unscrew the pressure plate to the flywheel bolts in a crosswise fashion and relieve the pressure of the spring before half removing the pressure plate as well as the clutch plate. Check flywheel for cracks, and clutch plate lining for wear should have above the rivet heads, at least, 1/16 inch. The release bearing is often replaced when the clutch plate is replaced, makes it an accessory that is usually replaced along with the clutch plate. Inspect the pressure plate for scoring and wear, if this is the case take the pressure plate to a machinist to have it resurfaced or replaced. Before installation, it is advisable to clean thoroughly the surfaces of the flywheel and the pressure plate so that there is no stain of oil or grease. Fit the clutch plate along with the pressure plate and use an alignment tool to properly position the same. Torque the pressure plate to flywheel bolts to a torque of only enough to keep them from coming loose then align the clutch plate and tighten the bolts in an irregular pattern until they achieve the required torque. Apply Daimler high temperature grease to the release bearing and fork fingers and install the release bearing, bell housing and transmission SFI take care that all parts and fasteners are replaced and tightened properly to the respective torque.
