    Q:
How do you replace Rack and Pinion Boot on Cadillac DeVille and DTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the tie-rod ends, start by cutting off the inner boot clamp and discarding it. Use pliers to squeeze the tangs and slide the outer boot clamp off the boot. Then, detach the boot from the vent cross tube (if equipped) and slide the boots off the tie-rod. Before installing the new boots, wrap the threads on the ends of the tie-rods with a layer of tape to protect the small ends of the new boots during installation. To install the new boots, loosely install the inner boot clamp on each boot and slide them onto the tie-rod, securing them on the rack and pinion. Connect the breather tube, if applicable. Use boot clamp pliers to tighten the inner boot clamp and slide the outer clamp onto the boot. Finally, install the tie-rod ends and connect them to the steering knuckle. It is important to have the front-end alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.

    Q:
How to remove and install steering rack boots on Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali and Yukon XL? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove and install rack and pinion boots, loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the tie-rod ends and the locknuts. Remove the outer boot clamps with pliers, cut off the inner boot clamps, and throw them away. Mark the location of the breather tube in relation to the rack and pinion assembly, then remove the boots and the tube. Apply grease to the exposed ends of the toothed rack before installing new boots. To install new boots, install a new clamp on the inner end of the boot. Apply grease to the groove on the tie-rod and the mounting grooves on the rack and pinion. Line up the breather tube with the marks made during removal (if applicable) and slide the new boot onto the rack and pinion housing. Make sure the boot isn't twisted, then tighten the new inner clamp. Install the outer clamps and tie-rod end locknuts. Finally, install the tie-rod ends and have the front-end alignment checked and, if necessary, adjusted.
