    Q:
How to disconnect and remove the steering wheel on a Chevrolet C1500 and K1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect both cables from the battery. Caution: On models equipped with a Delco Loc II anti-theft audio system, be sure the lockout feature is turned off before performing any procedure which requires disconnecting the battery. On 1994 and earlier models, simply pry off the horn cap. On 1995 models, turn the steering wheel 90-degrees to gain access to the holes in the backside of the steering wheel. Insert a thin hard tool such as a ball-point pen or a scribe into the hole for each of the four spring-loaded fasteners. To detach the airbag module from the steering wheel on 1995 models, rotate the wheel 90-degrees, insert a hard and thin object-such as a scribe-and push in firmly against each of the four ball-lock fasteners to unlock the airbag module from the wheel. Unplug the yellow electrical connector from the back of the airbag module. Push in firmly against the head of each fastener with the tool and pull on the airbag module simultaneously with the other hand. On 1996 and later models, turn the steering wheel 90-degrees to gain access to the holes in the backside of the steering wheel. Insert a screwdriver into the hole for each of the four spring clips and push the spring aside to release the pin. There are four pins and four springs. On airbag-equipped models, unplug the yellow electrical connector from the module and set the module aside, with the airbag side of the module facing UP. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut and mark the position of the steering wheel to the shaft, if marks don't already exist or don't line up. Use a puller to detach the steering wheel from the shaft. Don't hammer on the shaft to dislodge the wheel. To install the wheel, align the mark on the steering wheel hub with the mark on the shaft and slide the wheel onto the shaft. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal.
