To remove the air conditioning system, start by discharging the system and disconnecting the battery. Then, raise the vehicle and remove the splash shield and skid plate if necessary. Next, remove the air intake duct and serpentine drive belt, as well as the air conditioning compressor drive belt. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor and clean it thoroughly. Disconnect the suction and discharge lines from the compressor, plug the open fittings, and remove the compressor from the mounting bracket. For installation, follow the instructions provided with the new compressor, adding oil if necessary. Reconnect the battery, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested. If oil balancing is required, drain the old compressor and record the amount of oil. Add this to the amount measured during evacuation. If the total is less than 1.4 oz, no balancing is needed. If it is more, subtract 1.4 oz from the drained oil and add the difference to the new compressor. Install the compressor and have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested.
