Depress the parking brake pedal. Clamp locking pliers on the cable where it enters its casing. Pull the brake release and remove the cable from the control assembly. Release the locking tabs on the casing and remove the casing from the control assembly. Push the grommet and cable through the cowl and into the engine compartment. Remove the cable from its guide bracket attached to the engine cowl. Remove the cable from its guide attached to the underside of the rocker panel. Remove the cable from the equalizer lever. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

    Q:
How do you adjust the parking brake for the 1987 Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
Safely raise and support the vehicle, making sure that the service brakes are properly adjusted. Depress the parking brake pedal two ratchet clicks, loosen the jam nut on the equalizer adjusting nut, and tighten the adjusting nut until the rear wheel can be turned rearward by hand, but not forward. Release the ratchet one click, so that the rear wheel rotates rearward freely and forward with a slight drag. Release the ratchet fully, so that the rear wheel turns freely in either direction. Perform any further adjustment, if necessary, then lower the vehicle.
