    Q:
How do you replace hard, split, or separated rubber mounts while keeping the engine/transmission in V8 engine on Pontiac Firebird? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the rubber mounts are hard, split or separated from the metal backing, they will need to be replaced and the operation can be done on the vehicle with the engine/transmission still in situ. On front-mounted engines there exist throughbolt and nut that should be detached, the engine can then be lifted slightly using a hoist or a jack that has a wood block placed on the oil pan. After that, take off the mount and frame bracket assembly out of the crossmember, put the new mount in place, fit the throughbolt and nut, and properly tighten all the bolts to the incidated torque. For the rear mount, remove the crossmember-to-mount bolts, and then jack up the transmission just enough that the bolts can be slid out. After that, take off the mount to transmission bolts then the mount. Place the new mount and lower the trans, align the crossmember-to-mount bolts before final tightening of all the bolts to torque.

    Q:
How do you inspect the front mount for the 1980 Chevrolet Caprice? Posted by Customer
    A:
To inspect the front mount, raise the engine slightly to create tension on the rubber mount using a hoist or jack placed under the forward edge of the oil pan. Check for heat cracks on the hard rubber surface, rubber separating from the metal plate, or splits through the center.

    Q:
How do you replace the front mount for the 1982 Chevrolet El Camino? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the front mount, relieve tension by raising the engine slightly. Then, remove the engine mount-to-engine block bolts and the through bolt, taking care to only loosen the through bolt on the 200/229 V6 model. Install the new mount along with the through bolts and nuts, then secure the engine mount-to-engine block bolts, ensuring all fasteners are torqued to specifications.
