    Q:
How do you remove and install the ECT sensor for Cadillac DeVille and DTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
You can find the ECT sensor behind the engine, the edge facing the firewall and below the EGR valve. The first step of removing the ECT sensor is unplugging its cable from the negative battery cable. It is important to empty part of engine coolant before taking out ECT sensor from the vehicle, as it helps in reducing cooling loss. Then disconnect electrical connector from ECT sensor and unscrew sensor from thermostat housing. Prepare that some coolant will come out when you remove this sensor if you never removed any coolant. Prior to fitting new ECT sensor wrap its threads with Teflon sealing tape to prevent leakages and corrosion of threads. It's a good idea if you have an old thread sealant on or rewrap threads with fresh teflon tape even if you plan on putting back your old ECT sensor. Fasten down and torque up until it gets tightened. Installation is otherwise a reverse of removal. Finally, check for necessary coolant level in relation to engine temperature. Begin running it until it reaches operating temperature as usual and then inspect for leaks where there might be some antifreeze dripping off somewhere at this point in time or is it just because of other reasons? Let's go back to expansion tank after engine has warmed up then cooled down.

    Q:
How to test and replace the engine coolant temperature sensor for Cadillac ElDorado and Fleetwood? Posted by Customer
    A:
The engine coolant temperature sensor, a thermistor in the coolant stream, varies resistance with temperature. The PCM uses a 5-volt signal to determine the coolant temperature based on this resistance. Testing requires comparing resistance to a chart and checking against an automotive thermometer. If it's off-spec, replace the sensor. Located near the thermostat housing, ensure coolant is drained before removal. Coat the new sensor with thread sealant, tighten to the recommended torque, refill coolant, and reconnect the battery cable.

    Q:
How is the Coolant Temperature Sensor checked and replace for Chevrolet El Camino? Posted by Customer
    A:
The indicator system consists of a lamp mounted on the instrument panel and a sender unit which is located on the left-hand cylinder head. In case of unusual indication or developing fault, check the coolant level in the system and then ensure that the connecting wiring between the gauge and the sender unit is secure. When you turn your ignition switch ON and your starter motor rotates, your indicator lamp should be lit (over heated engine indications). If this lamp does not come on, it can be due to a burned bulb, faulty ignition switch or open circuit. As soon as you start your car engine, this lamp should go off and remain like that unless there is overheating of the engine. The lamp failing to go off may be because there is an earth leak between the lamp and sender unit, temperature senders defective ignition switch. To replace the sender unit it simply unscrews from left-hand cylinder head and replacement installed. There will be some loss of coolant so check level following fitting of new one.

    Q:
What is the coolant temperature indicator system and Coolant Temperature Sensor and how does it work on Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali and Yukon XL? Posted by Customer
    A:
The coolant temperature indicator system comprises a dashboard-mounted gauge and an engine-mounted sensor, which also informs the fuel and emissions systems. If overheating is indicated, check the coolant level and sensor operation. A defective sensor should be replaced. If the sensor is functional, the temperature gauge should be assessed by a dealer using a scan tool, as the onboard computer processes the data.

    Q:
How to check and replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on Pontiac Firebird? Posted by Customer
    A:
First, the coolant temperature indicator system has a light in the instrument panel and a temperature-sending unit. If there's a temperature gauge, a transducer lets you replace the sending unit. Inspect the coolant and the wiring between the light/gauge and the sending unit.

    Q:
What is the coolant temperature indicator system on Pontiac Grand Prix? Posted by Customer
    A:
The coolant temperature indicator system has a light or gauge in the instrument panel and a temperature sending unit on the engine. The location varies by engine size. Some vehicles have a low coolant warning system with a light and sensor on the radiator. If overheating or low coolant is indicated, check coolant levels and wiring. Ensure fuses are intact. When ignition is on, indicators should light up for overheating or low coolant. If not, possible issues include a burned-out bulb, faulty ignition switch, or open circuit. To test, ground the sender wire with ignition on; if the gauge responds, replace the sending unit. Once the engine starts, the light should remain off unless there's an issue. If it stays on, possible causes are a grounded wire, defective sender, or faulty ignition switch. When replacing sending units, ensure the engine is cool and check coolant type. Replace sensors by draining some coolant and disconnecting connectors. Refill coolant after installation.
