    Q:
How do you replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor on Chevrolet Express? Posted by Customer
    A:
To begin the replacement of the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor, unplug the cable from the negative battery terminal. Go on to drain cooling system below sensor level. The ECT sensor position changes with different engine types. For 2014 and earlier 4.3L V6, 4.3L V6 and 5.0L, 5.7L and 7.4L V8 engines, it is situated at the front of the intake manifold to the right of EGR valve. In case of 2000 and later models of V6 engines, it will be located on left side of left cylinder head. With respect to those with V8 engines having a displacement of either 4.8l, 5.3l or else 6.0l, it is found at the front in the left side of left cylinder head. For 2018 and later years' models with V6 engines having a displacement of sixty four hundred cubic centimeters, it is located on top of water pump beneath upper radiator hose. Disconnect electrical connector from ECT sensor then slowly unscrew from intake manifold or cylinder heads. To prevent leakage wrap threads by Teflon sealing tape before installing sensor. Use specific torque to tighten sensor and refill cooling system when done. The substitute for an ECT begins with detaching your cable from this negative battery post. Drain your cooling method below sensor stage. The location for your ECT varies depending on this kind like engine. Underneath are some examples: for instance, for earlier version such as year model fours point three liters vee-six; others are manufactured in year twenty fourteen while next ones operates at either five-point zero liters or six-point two liters capacities; two last ones were used in cars like Chevrolet Camaro between year nineteen ninety-five to nineteen ninety-seven inclusive., while others have been fitted with sixteen valve engines in the year nineteen ninety-eight alone; whereas other models on the other hands were equipped with v6 engines having a displacement of either six hundred and twenty-four cubic centimeters or fifty five hundred cubic centimeters. The upper radiator hose is found in the following water pump, while 2018 and later years' models for V6 engines with 4300cc of engine displacement can be found. Remove electrical connector from this ECT sensor and unscrew it off gently from manifold or cylinder heads. Wrap threads using Teflon sealing tape prior to installing sensor in order to avoid leakage. Use specified torque to tighten new sensor then after finishing, replace the coolant system.

    Q:
What does the coolant temperature indicator system consist of on Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana? Posted by Customer
    A:
The coolant temperature indicator system includes a gauge and a sensor, the gauge is mounted in the instrument panel and the sensor is mounted on the engine block. Test the circuit by grounding the wire to the sensor with the ignition on and if the gauge responds, it's fine; if not, check the wiring circuit. To replace the sensor, unscrew it from the engine and quickly replace it with a new one using a sealant and check the coolant level after installing the new sensor.

    A:
Once the engine starts, the indicator light should go out and remain off, unless the engine overheats.
