Q:
How do you remove the intake manifold in 2.3L four cylinder (Quad-4) engine? Posted by Customer
A:
To take out the intake manifold, it is necessary to first reduce the fuel system pressure and remove the negative battery cable. Next, empty the cooling system then carry out removal of throttle body. Start by labeling vacuum and breather hoses, electrical wires etc before removing oil/air separator, oil fill cap and dipstick assembly. Unbolt / detach oil fill tube from engine block; remove intake manifold brace then loosen up manifold mounting nuts/bolts. In case of need use soft-face hammer to displace manifold away from cylinder head. For proper installation ensure that mating surfaces of cylinder head and manifold are clean and make use of gasket scraper to get rid of old sealant as well as gasket material. Clean mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone. Chase threads in bolt holes with tap; blow out chips with compressed air; put gasket on cylinder head with all openings properly aligned; place intake manifold without tearing gasket; start nuts /bolts by hand then three step tighten them down finally reverse remaining removal steps, start engine up and check for leaks at intake manifold joints.
