- Q: How do you remove and install a catalytic converter without separate exhaust manifolds in 3.5L V6 engine on Saturn Vue?A: These models do not come with independent exhaust manifolds, rather these catalytic converter assemblies are mounted directly on the cylinder head. In order to demote the catalytic converter you must first need to lock the negative terminal of the battery cable. Drench the exhaust fasteners with penetrating oil and leave them for some time. Secure the rear wheels so that the vehicle cannot roll, apply the parking brake and engage the transaxle PARK position. Lift the front of the vehicle and sustain it properly on jack stands, then remove the splash guard at the underbody of the engine compartment. Remove the exhaust pipe to catalytic converter nuts and separate exhaust pipes from the catalytic converters and remove the oxygen sensor wires. When dealing with a rear catalytic converter, then it is recommended that you take out its bracket. In case of front converter, the front air dam must be removed and the cooling fan/radiator assembly must be slid forward to make extra space for removing. Bolt down the nuts holding the converter to the cylinder head and then pull out the cylinder head converter. To install, scrape the mating and cylinder head surfaces of any deposit and remains of the gasket material, then fit a new gasket on the studs. Fit the catalytic converter and screw the mounting nuts to the prescribed torque of fifteen pounds, applied in three equal measures. Install the other components back in the reverse fashion of installation, but before tightening the nuts, apply a few drops of engine oil on the studs.
