Saturn Vue EGR Valve
EGR Valve is used in the Saturn Vue car to allow the back flow of exhaust gasses in the chamber in case the air fuel mixture is not up to standard, hence minimizing air pollutants. Through the recirculation of a portion of the exhaust gas, this EGR Valve reduces the flow of oxygen and includes a minimal amount of inert gases that enables it to reduce the heat produced by combustion particularly NOx. In Saturn Vue over the years, there have been different types of EGR Valves used: starting from simple orifice jets, up to the valves that are sensitive to conditions such as coolant temperature and manifold vacuum. Current EGR systems may also use backpressure transducers to adjust the flow according to the load that is being imposed on the engine. Although the EGR Valve is capable of addressing the levels of emissions, it may be blocked by the carbon buildups which require its cleaning to operate well on Saturn Vue vehicles.

- Q: How to Replace the EGR Valve on Saturn Vue?A: As already indicated, the EGA system is only viable for 2004 and later models that have the V6 engine. Sulphur dioxide and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) are produced in combustion chamber due to reaction of oxygen and nitrogen in the incoming air at high temperature of combustion. NOx emitted from the tailpipe of vehicles reacts with reactive organic compounds and hydrocarbons together with sunlight to form ozone and photochemical smog. Reduces NOx emissions through EGR system which forces back the gases from exhaust manifold through EGR valve and into the intake manifold to the combustion chambers and mix with air/fuel mixture to cool the combustion. The EGR system is made up of the Powertrain Control Module, the EGR valve, the EGR valve position sensor, other sensors that will let the PCM know when to open the EGR valve. The amount by which the EGR valve opens is referred to as the EGR valve lift and is controlled by the PCM which varies the current supplied to the EGR valve in response to working parameters. If it is unsuitable for the conditions, the PCM shuts current down to close the valve of EGR flow. In the case of EGR valve removal, disconnect the wiring harness by pulling the release tab and removing the electrical connector, then, two mounting nuts are removed. Upon pulling the valve, the two gasket surfaces must be cleaned to make sure no remnants of the previous gasket is left. The installation process is done in a reverse order which requires a new gasket and proper tightening of the mounting nuts.
