Pontiac G6 Fuel Level Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you remove the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module?
A: To remove the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit module, start by relieving the system fuel pressure and disconnecting the negative battery terminal. Then, remove the Fuel Tank and disconnect the fuel supply line, being careful to soak up any spilled fuel. Mark the orientation of the fuel pump for correct realignment during installation. Use water pump pliers to unscrew the locknut, and if necessary, loosen it with a hammer and brass punch. Raise the pump assembly to disconnect the quick-connect fitting for the ventilation harness, and remove the pump assembly without damaging the fuel inlet strainer or the fuel level sensor float arm and float. For installation, inspect the O-ring and fuel pump inlet strainer, replacing if necessary. Insert the fuel pump assembly into the tank, connecting the ventilation hose before locking it into place. Take care not to damage the fuel inlet strainer, float arm, or float. Ensure the float arm is not bent to maintain accurate fuel level indication. Finally, reverse the removal steps for installation.
Q: How to replace Fuel Level Sensor and Fuel Pump on Pontiac G6?
A: Place the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module on a clean table. Then disconnect the electrical connection of the fuel level sensor at its molded-in harness guide and unlink the fuel level sensor connector from the pump module cover. Removing the locking tab raises and slide off the sensor only by sliding it towards you to remove a locking tab that holds it in place. Few things to take note, no more disassembly that can be done on this case with respect to disassembling further on this case of the assembly for fuel pump/fuel level sensor. To fix, simply hear a click sound when sliding into position on top of Fuel Pump Module; then pull gently till locked into position by Sensor Unit. Other than following through these processes in reverse order, installing is quite straightforward.
