Pontiac G6 Fuel Tank

Fuel Tank of Pontiac G6 vehicles is a rather important part that is designed to contain and supply fuel to the engine, as well as provide the place for such components as electric fuel pump and fuel gauge sender. To reduce fuel movement and noise and to assist in the EVAP system in capturing fuel vapors already in the tank, fuel is divided into multiple compartments by means of baffles. Materials widely used in developing fuel tanks for Pontiac G6 include metal as well as plastic. Metallic tanks are constructed from steel or aluminium and plastic tanks from High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). Both have their concerns; the metal tanks can corrode and rust anytime while plastic tanks crack when exposed to extreme heat or experiences impacts. Each type of the container is made of the material suitable for exposure to rough environmental conditions; further, both sorts of the container undergo industrial tests for containment of leakage.

Each OEM Pontiac G6 Fuel Tank we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Pontiac G6 Fuel Tank Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove the Fuel Tank?
A: To remove the fuel tank, start by relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the negative battery terminal. Then, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Remove the exhaust system underneath the fuel tank and loosen the hose clamp to disconnect the fuel filler neck hose. If there is still fuel in the tank, siphon or hand-pump it out through the filler neck pipe. Disconnect the EVAP recirculation hose and the electrical connector from the EVAP canister. Disconnect the quick-connect fittings for the fuel and EVAP lines, and if necessary, disconnect the rear stabilizer bar. Ensure that all accessible fuel lines and wiring are disconnected. Support the fuel tank with a floor jack and block of wood, remove the fuel tank strap bolts, and lower the tank slightly to disconnect the upper fuel lines. Check that all lines and wiring are disconnected, then lower the tank on the right side until it clears the frame and continue lowering and moving it forward to remove it from the right side of the vehicle. To install, simply reverse the removal process.
  • Q: How do you clean the Fuel Tank?
A: The fuel tank is made of plastic and cannot be repaired, therefore, can only be replaced. If there is a need to remove sediment from the bottom of the tank, it is recommended to have the fuel tank steam-cleaned. Prior to cleaning, the Fuel Pump/level sensor module and all EVAP system components should be removed. It is important to allow ample time for the tank to air-dry before it is returned to service.
