To remove the steering column cover, start by removing the steering wheel and prying off the cover using a screwdriver. Compress the lock plate with a tool or fabricate one to remove the retaining ring. Lift off the lock plate, canceling cam assembly, and upper bearing spring. Remove the turn signal actuator arm and hazard signal knob assembly. Then, remove the screws holding the turn signal switch assembly and the steering column trim cover. Disconnect the vent hose if necessary. Remove the bolts securing the wiring harness and disconnect the wiring connector if replacing the turn signal switch. If not replacing the switch, leave it hanging from the column. Turn the ignition switch to the 'Ignition' position and remove the key warning switch. Remove the ignition lock cylinder and the screws holding the steering column housing cover. Punch out the pivot pin to remove the
Wiper Switch. If further disassembly is required, consult a qualified mechanic. To install the wiper switch, reverse the removal procedure. When installing the steering column cover, hold the dimmer actuator in place. Install the ignition switch lock cylinder and the turn signal switch, following the reverse removal procedure. Finally, reassemble the remaining parts of the steering column using the lock plate compressor to install the retaining ring.
