Oldsmobile Cutlass Starter Solenoid

The Starter Solenoid which is used in Oldsmobile Cutlass vehicles plays a very crucial role right from the starting system of the motor. It works as a switch that gets a small electric current from the ignition switch and lets a larger current from the battery to pass to the starter motor. This basically not only energises the starter motor but also aligns the pinion of starter in a position to mesh with the ring gear of the engine. The styles of Starter Solenoids used in Oldsmobile Cutlass models vary over the years in modification, there where even the earlier models, with the Bendix drive type where the Starter had no solenoid mechanism at all as it required inertia to engage. For enhancing the function of the starter motor and to avoid problems like over driving it, most modern solenoids possess a one way clutch. Problems with the Oldsmobile Cutlass Starter Solenoid include issues with power where one may find that there is little power flow to the starter solenoid and this could be because of a weak battery or corroded cables, where the car appears to be hard to start. It is imperative to apply the necessary maintenance on Starter Solenoid as often as possible to guarantee proper functioning of Oldsmobile Cutlass.
